No true Spiritual Guide or Teacher will ever ask for money up front, and if they do you should probably turn away from them immediately!. They’re almost certainly setting you on a path to becoming disenchanted and disillusioned with spiritual practice in general since their bottom dollar requires that they put capitalist concerns ahead of ethical ones. It also enables a would-be teacher to avoid reflecting on whether they are truly bringing enough value to their students to actually make their entire living from being a spiritual teacher. These kinds of self-reflections and inquiries are essential to the development of a Teacher, in the same way Correct Practice is essential to the development of a student. Authentic connection between a student and a teacher is of paramount importance for authentic transmission to take place. And there can be nothing authentic without an entirely solid moral and ethical foundation to these kinds of relationships. It is explicitly for these reasons that the cost of these sessions are based entirely on the student. On their own personal ethical reflection of what value has been provided to them by their teacher, after-which they must determine for themselves what they can afford, after having reflected on what they feel is just and fair, in relation to their personal financial, social and spiritual situation. This in turn opens dialogue that is honest and reflective and keeps both parties, student and teacher “on the edge of their practice” as we say.
